... High water on interior rivers through Memorial Day weekend...

A series of weather fronts moving across the eastern interior will
bring 1 to 2 inches of rainfall to the uplands east of Fairbanks
and the eastern Alaska Range. Locally higher amounts are possible
in the Alaska Range between the Tok cutoff and Richardson highways.
The rainfall combined with melting of the remaining higher
elevation snowpack will result in significant runoff into many
rivers.

Water levels on rivers draining the uplands north and east of
Fairbanks and the eastern Alaska Range will have significant
rises later this week. This includes the chena, Salcha,
goodpaster, and fortymile rivers as well as rivers draining the
eastern Alaska Range. Water levels are already high in the chena
river basin but could approach bankfull levels in other locations
by this weekend.

Expect increased debris such as logs and sticks moving downriver
and local bank erosion. Most gravel bars will be covered with
water and some river access points may be impassable due to high
water. People on or near interior rivers should be prepared for
high water and move items away from the river.

Water levels are expected to gradually fall next week.
