The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
central Maricopa County in south central Arizona...
northwestern Pinal County in southeastern Arizona...

* until 900 PM MST

* at 829 PM MST... Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm
capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This
storm was located near South Mountain Park... or 7 miles south of
Laveen... and moving southwest at 40 mph. Penny size hail may also
accompany the damaging winds.

* Locations impacted include...
Phoenix... Chandler... Tempe... Avondale... Goodyear... Tolleson...
Laveen... Sky Harbor Airport... Arizona State University...
South Mountain Park... South Phoenix... downtown Phoenix...
Salt River Indian community... Arizona Mills mall...
Arizona state Fairgrounds... Tempe marketplace... Papago Park...
Guadalupe... Rainbow Valley and Komatke.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds... destructive
hail... deadly lightning and very heavy rain. For your
protection... move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your
home or business. Heavy rains flood roads quickly so do not drive
into areas where water covers the Road.

In addition to large hail and damaging winds... continuous cloud to
ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors
immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers.
Remember... if you can hear thunder... you are close enough to be
struck by lightning.

storm was located near Kings ranch... or 11 miles east of Apache
Junction... and moving southeast at 20 mph. Penny size hail may
also accompany the damaging winds.

Apache Junction... Superior... Queen Valley... Gold Camp...
Boyce Thompson Arboretum... Florence Junction and Kings ranch.

central Maricopa County in south central Arizona...
northern Pinal County in southeastern Arizona...

* until 1130 PM MST

* at 826 PM MST... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause Urban and Small
Stream flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience localized urban flooding
include... Phoenix... Mesa... Chandler... Glendale... Scottsdale...
Gilbert... Tempe... Avondale... Goodyear... Buckeye...
Apache Junction... El Mirage... Fountain Hills... Paradise Valley...

The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
southwestern Pinal County in southeastern Arizona...
north central Pima County in southeastern Arizona...

* until 945 PM MST

* at 739 PM MST... Doppler radar indicated a large cluster of
thunderstorms over the northern portions of the Tohono Oodham
Nation producing between 1.00 and 1.50 inches of rain... with
locally heavier amounts. This will cause minor flooding of roadway
dips... normally dry washes and other low lying areas.

Heavy flows are expected in the Brawley... blanco and Aguirre washes.
In addition, heavy rain from storms earlier this evening will
result in minor flooding in Quijotoa wash near the intersection of
Route 15 and Highway 86.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
