Flood Warning

The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay area
has issued a
* Flood Warning for
the Salinas river near Spreckels
* from Tuesday afternoon until further notice
* at 04pm Monday the stage was... 17.4 feet
* minor flooding is forecast
* flood stage is 23.0 feet
* forecast to rise above flood stage by 3 PM PST Tuesday afternoon and
continue to rise to near 25.6 feet by late Tuesday evening.
* At 24.0 feet... the lowest areas of agricultural land along the
lower portions of the Salinas river will have significant flooding.
River Road will have moderate flooding. Spreckels Boulevard will
begin to flood.
* At 23.0 feet... a few homes near the Salinas river along The Reach
of the river gage will begin to flood. River Road near Spreckels
will have minor flooding.
* At 19.0 feet... lowland agricultural areas will have minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Those living, working, or recreating along or near the river should
prepare for flood conditions and be ready to move to higher ground.
Follow emergency official instructions.

Flooding can cause additional hazards like bank collapse and channel
erosion. Avoid areas adjacent to a flooding river. Do not let
children play near flood waters... especially around culverts and storm
drains.

Do not drive through flood prone areas... low water crossings... or go
around barricades. The Road ahead may be undermined or washed out and
the water depth too great to allow your car to cross safely.

... The Flood Warning continues for
the Carmel river at Robles del Rio
* from Monday evening until Tuesday afternoon
* at 03pm Monday the stage was 8.1 feet
* minor flooding is forecast
* flood stage is 8.5 feet
* forecast to rise above flood stage by 8 PM Monday evening and continue to
rise to near 10.5 feet by midnight Monday night. The river is forecast to
fall below flood stage stage by sunrise Tuesday morning.
* At 11.0 feet... Hacienda Carmel residential development levee is
threatened. Moderate flooding of Golf courses and low lying homes
along the entire Carmel river. Homes in the Carmel lagoon area
begin to experience moderate flooding.
* At 10.0 feet... south side of Highway 1 bridge access becomes
inundated and impassable. Many low lying homes threatened along
the entire Carmel river. Low lying homes near Camp steffani
experience substantial flooding and homes near Schulte Road in
danger of flooding. Homes surrounding the Carmel lagoon area are
in danger of flooding.
* At 8.5 feet... low lying homes from Camp steffani to below Robles
del Rio will begin to flood. Old odello ranch near Carmel begins to
flood. Homes along paso Hondo and dampierre park subject to
flooding.

Areal Flood Advisory, Areal Flood Watch

The National Weather Service in the San Francisco Bay area has issued
a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
northwestern Monterey County in central California...

* until 615 am PST Tuesday

* at 610 PM PST, Monterey County emergency management officials
reported continued flooding from the Santa Rita creek in the Bolsa
Knolls area of north Salinas. Evacuations have taken place in this
area. Periods of rain continue in this area and flooding will
likely continue through much of Monday night.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
areas along Santa Rita creek and Bolsa Knolls.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

interior valleys... mountains of San Benito County and interior
Monterey County including Pinnacles National Park... North Bay
interior valleys... North Bay mountains... northern Monterey
Bay... northern Salinas valley/Hollister Valley and Carmel
Valley... San Francisco... San Francisco Bay shoreline... San
Francisco peninsula coast... Santa Clara Valley including San
Jose... Santa Cruz Mountains... Santa Lucia mountains and Los
Padres National Forest... southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur
coast and southern Salinas valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San
Antonio.

* Through late tonight

* a prolonged period of moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated
to fall on already saturated soils through Monday evening. This
will result in sharp rises on area creeks, streams and rivers and
will likely result in flooding.

* Impacts include enhanced runoff and associated flooding in low
lying areas and waterways, rising water levels and flooding on
area streams, creeks and rivers. Other impacts include increased
risk of rock/mud slides in steep terrain, downed trees and power
lines, and damaged to or washed out roadways.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.





Wind Advisory

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 am PST Tuesday...

* timing... southeast winds increase through this morning.
Strongest southerly winds expected this afternoon and evening.
Winds diminish late tonight.

* Winds... sustained southerly winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45
mph. Winds increasing to 20 to 30 mph this afternoon and evening
with gusts to 50 mph.

* Impacts... gusty winds will make driving difficult especially
for drivers of high profile vehicles. Saturated soils will
also contribute to an increased risk of downed trees and
powerlines.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that wind gusts of at least 45 mph are
expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...
especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Winds
this strong combined with saturated soils can result in downed
trees and power outages.

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
