Areal Flood Watch

Statement as of 3:02 PM EDT on May 23, 2017

Expires 3:00 AM EDT on May 25, 2017

... Flood Watch now in effect through late Wednesday night...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of central North Carolina, including the following
areas, Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham,
Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax,
Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange,
person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance,
wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson.

* Through late Wednesday night

* showers and embedded thunderstorms, some with very heavy
rainfall, will continue across central North Carolina through
tonight. A second round of heavy rainfall is likely Wednesday
afternoon into Wednesday night. Total rainfall amounts of two
to four inches are likely, with localized higher amounts
possible.

* These high rainfall amounts will produce a threat of flooding,
including street flooding and rising water on area creeks,
across central North Carolina into Wednesday night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for
possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding
should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Only 6 to 12 inches of water can float a vehicle. Remember, never
drive through areas where water covers the Road. The water may be
much deeper than it appears, and the Road beneath could be washed
away or weakened.
