Areal Flood Watch

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of central North Carolina, including the following
areas, Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham,
Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax,
Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange,
person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance,
wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson.

* Through Tuesday morning

* widespread rain will continue overnight across the western half
of central NC. The rain will become heavy, especially in the
Piedmont later tonight. The heavy rain will spread east across
the remainder of central NC Monday and Monday night. Storm
total rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected.

* The long duration of the rain through Monday night or Tuesday
morning will saturate the ground. Periods of heavy rain will
lead to rapid runoff, likely producing flooding of creeks and
streams. Main Stem rivers will likely see significant rises in
the water levels by Monday, including the Yadkin, haw, Neuse,
tar, Roanoke, and Cape Fear.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for
possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding
should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
