... Special Weather Statement...

At 1001 PM CDT/901 PM MDT/, Doppler radar was tracking strong
thunderstorms along a line extending from 13 miles southwest of
Mullen to near Venango. Movement was east at 50 mph.

Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
North Platte, Ogallala, Grant, Stapleton, Thedford, Tryon,
Sutherland, Hershey, Paxton, Wallace, Madrid, Venango, Elsie, Halsey,
Gandy, Dickens, Lake Maloney state Recreation Area, Kingsley dam,
Ringgold and Roscoe.

This includes the following highways...
Highway 2 between mile markers 205 and 236.
Highway 61 between mile markers 59 and 102.
Highway 92 between mile markers 136 and 138, and between mile
markers 176 and 235.
Highway 97 between mile markers 1 and 60.
Interstate 80 in Nebraska between mile markers 118 and 180.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

If on or near Lake McConaughy and Sutherland Reservoir, get out of
the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning
can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can
hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move
to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

... Preliminary NWS damage survey for 06/27/2017 thunderstorm
wind event...

.Overview... A line of severe thunderstorms moved through
central Nebraska on Tuesday, June 27th. The storms moved
into northeastern Lincoln County and began causing widespread
damage consistent with 80 to 110 mph wind speeds. There
was widespread damage to power poles, many of which were
snapped several feet up from the base of the pole and were
replaced within the past two years. There was also widespread
tree damage, trees uprooted and snapped at the trunk. Several
buildings lost roof material and some metal sheds lost large
sections of siding. Stay tuned for updates.
