Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 12:04 PM PDT on July 24, 2017

Expires 2:00 AM EDT on July 26, 2017

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Nevada, north central Nevada, northeast Nevada,
northwest Nevada, and south central Nevada, including the
following areas, in Nevada, Ruby Mountains/East Humboldt Range
and White Pine County. In north central Nevada, northern
Lander County and northern Eureka County and southern Lander
County and southern Eureka County. In northeast Nevada,
northern Elko County, south central Elko County, southeastern
Elko County, and southwestern Elko County. In northwest
Nevada, Humboldt County. In south central Nevada, northeastern
Nye County and northwestern Nye County.

* Through Tuesday evening.

* Monsoon moisture will continue to deepen across central Nevada
today. Resultant very heavy rainfall will create an environment
supportive of flash flooding during the afternoon and evening
hours.

* Areas most prone to flash flooding include small creeks and
streams in and near the higher terrain, wildfire burn scars,
and normally dry washes. Rock slides and debris/water flows
over roadways are possible. Low lying areas, where some roads
are, will be susceptible to flooding as well.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Fire Weather Warning

Statement as of 12:12 PM PDT on July 24, 2017

Expires 2:00 AM EDT on July 25, 2017

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 11 PM PDT this
evening for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds for fire
weather zones 468... 469 and 470...

* affected area... fire weather zone 468 eastern Humboldt County
and northwestern Elko County... fire weather zone 469
southwestern and central Elko County and fire weather zone 470
eastern Elko County.

* Thunderstorm coverage... scattered dry thunderstorms primarily
north of the I-80 corridor later this afternoon. Thunderstorms
will quickly transition to wet this evening.

* Outflow winds... erratic, gusty winds of 40 mph upwards to 55
mph associated with thunderstorm outflows are expected.

* Impacts... dry lightning may create new fire starts in
receptive fuels and combine with strong outflow winds to
produce rapid fire growth, primarily north of I-80.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
