* Flood Warning for...
Morgan County in eastern Tennessee...
Hawkins County in eastern Tennessee...
Claiborne County in eastern Tennessee...
Hancock County in eastern Tennessee...
Campbell County in eastern Tennessee...
Grainger County in eastern Tennessee...
Scott County in eastern Tennessee...
Union County in eastern Tennessee...
Lee County in southwestern Virginia...
the city of Norton in southwestern Virginia...

* until 630 PM EDT

* at 1231 PM EDT, emergency management reported flooding across
locations in the warning area. Numerous secondary roads have been
closed due to flooding and small creeks and streams are out of
their banks. Between 2 to 4 inches of rain has fallen over the
last 24 hours, with localized amounts up to 5 inches. An
additional 1 to 2 inches is possible over the next 6 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Kingsport, La Follette, Rogersville, Norton, Oneida, wise,
Maynardville, Gate City, Sneedville, Rutledge, Jonesville,
Wartburg, Big Stone Gap, New Tazewell, Bean Station, Tazewell,
Plainview, Jacksboro, Surgoinsville and Pennington Gap.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

inches. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible over the next 6
hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of southwest North Carolina and east Tennessee,
including the following areas, in southwest North Carolina,
Cherokee and Clay. In east Tennessee, Anderson, Bledsoe,
Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley, Campbell, Claiborne, east
Polk, Grainger, Hamilton, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs,
Morgan, NW Blount, northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN,
Sequatchie, southeast Monroe, Union, and west Polk.

* Through this evening

* additional one to two inches of rainfall will be common across
much of the area through today with localized amounts in excess
of 3 inches possible.

* The persistent rainfall will fall on already saturated ground
across much of the area. The additional heavy rains could lead
to flooding of roadways, poor drainage areas, low lying areas
and small rivers and streams across the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take quick
action if flooding is observed or a Flash Flood Warning is
issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn around!
