The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a

* Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for...
north central San Juan County in southeastern Utah...

* until 745 PM MDT

* at 351 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause Arroyo and small stream flooding in
the advisory area.

* Flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of north central San
Juan County.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Colorado and Utah, including the following areas,
in Colorado, Animas river basin, central Colorado River Basin,
central Gunnison and Uncompahgre river basin, central Yampa
river basin, debeque to Silt corridor, Elkhead and park
mountains, Flat Tops, Four Corners/upper Dolores river, Gore
and Elk Mountains/Central Mountain valleys, Grand Valley,
grand and battlement mesas, lower Yampa river basin, northwest
San Juan Mountains, Paradox Valley/lower Dolores river, Roan
and tavaputs plateaus, San Juan river basin, southwest San
Juan Mountains, Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide, upper
Gunnison River Valley, upper Yampa river basin, and west Elk
and sawatch mountains. In Utah, arches/Grand Flat,
canyonlands/Natural Bridges, eastern Uinta Basin, eastern
Uinta Mountains, La Sal and Abajo Mountains, southeast Utah,
and tavaputs plateau.

* Until midnight MDT tonight

* flash flooding due to heavy rainfall is possible, especially
over already saturated soils and areas of steep terrain. Steep
canyons, burn scars, and normally dry streams, washes and
arroyos are most susceptible to flash flooding. Water can rise
quickly downstream of heavy rain, even when a thunderstorm is
miles away. Rock and mud slides, and high water flowing across
roads, are also possible which could impact travel.

* Scattered to numerous thunderstorms with heavy rain are
expected over the watch area today. The threat for flash
flooding will linger through the evening hours.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

... Significant weather advisory for southwestern San Juan County
until 515 PM MDT...

At 424 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to 11
miles southeast of Halls Crossing to 6 miles northeast of Monument
Valley visitors center. Movement was northeast at 30 mph.

Dime size hail, heavy rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be
possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Mexican Hat, Fry Canyon, tselakai dezza, Halchita, Bluff and Glen
Canyon National Recreation Area.

This includes the following highways...
U.S. Highway 191 in Utah between mile markers 14 and 25.
U.S. Highway 163 in Utah between mile markers 4 and 41.
Utah 95 between mile markers 58 and 91.
Utah 275 between mile markers 2 and 3.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Heavy rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
